The largest of four National forests in NC and encompassing over 1/2 million acres the Nantahala National Forest features Lone Bald Mountain towering over a mile above sea level at 5800 feet, scenic rivers and creeks with gorgeous waterfalls that present wonderful photographic opportunities. It's also a popular destination with tourists offering many recreational activities for visitors to participate in. is a Cherokee Indian word meaning "land of the noon day sun" because the river gorge is so deep sun only shines there mid-day.

Dry Falls Trail head - Work is complete and Dry Falls is OPEN! After a 2 year renovation project Dry falls is once again open to the public. FYI It's only a short hike down the moderately steep trail to the falls.
The stairs leading down to Dry Falls.
At the first glimpse of the falls on the pathway down, you realize that Dry Falls are not dry at all.

A bench along the pathway to Dry Falls.

Not far down the path turn the corner and there is the 65 foot waterfall in all god's glory, right before you, it's beautiful.
Stepping down the trail takes you right to the Sixty Five Foot waterfall. Fed by the Cullasaja River Dry falls tumbles over an overhanging cliff
When I walked underneath the falls across to the other side I was dry, could that be why they named it Dry Falls! Noticed how I used a slow shutter speed on this shot to soften the look of the waterfall.
A group poses for a photo on the other side of the falls.
